Post Katrina Studies
Appropriately so, studies at the the universities in New Orleans have changed after Hurricane Katrina.
Loyola University in New Orleans, which is where I studied as an undergrad, has classes dealing with the environment post Katrina, business development post Katrina, and the like. And they’ve launched – appropriately titled – The Noah Project, which will address intellectual, cultural and social concerns in post Katrina New Orleans.
I’m very proud to be an alum of Loyola University. The University has had a leadership role in New Orleans for a long time. For example, when I was an undergrad, Loyola’s sociology department designed a program that gave still cameras to a group of New Orleans policemen. The intention was to provide an opportunity for the policement to “see” New Orleans with a eye for beauty and humanity. The city’s police force has a long time reputation for violence and corruption. This was one attempt to produce change for good.
