Today's Run

I enjoy having a Garmin GPS runner’s watch because of all the data that it collects. Since I like running trails, the GPS watch captures the distance, speed, elevation, average pace, etc. I can’t cheat with this tool, which is cool. I work harder when I have the honest truth of how hard I’m working – or not.

I use two tools to capture the data: Garmin’s native “training center” software. And I use SportsTracks, which integrates with Google Earth. (The native Garmin software only integrates with a paid version of Google Earth called Google Earth Plus. SportsTracks is donation ware that works with regular Google Earth.)

So, some of the data on today’s run: I ran 4.21 miles with a cummulative elevation gain of 1170 feet. (Descent: 1188 feet. You do the math and metaphysics.) It was an “out and back” run, with an extended loop added at the end – which added to the cummulative”downhill” numbers.

You can see from the image that this is a pretty remote and hilly trail that I run. It originates at the complex that I live at, which is very cool. I like living at the edge of the wilderness.

There are drawbacks, of course: rattlesnakes, ticks, mountain lions, etc – but, it’s an adventure!
