Campus Shootings
Here is a line at the end of an USAToday article on yesterday’s shooting at Northern Illinois University :
The shooting was the fourth at a U.S. school within a week.
News like this hits me hard because I work in schools. Of course, I think that schools should be safe places at all times.
I was young when the University of Texas shooting occurred. However, I remember reading every word in the newspaper about Charlie Whitman what had done. I continue to read about school shootings. Although, I noticed that yesterday’s news from Illinois didn’t get as widespread attention as other shootings. I suspect that people are becoming desensitized to this type of news. That makes me sad.
I’m also sad and disturbed to read that there’s a push to allow university students to carry guns.
I believe that everyone is getting desensitised as well.
