Tavis Smiley Interview: KIVA.org
Saturday, July 18, 2009
Recently I was contacted by a producer for the Tavis Smiley Show, which is on Public Radio International. I was interviewed because of my involvement with KIVA.org micro lending.
Here is a link to the interview.

Thanks for making people aware of Kiva, Roland!
Earlier this year, I was intrigued by lendingclub.com (based in the same Sunnyvale start-up incubator as I was in at the time), which is essentially the commercial conterpart of Kiva — there was something extremely compelling about buying small shares of loans to real people I could attach faces to. Of course, at lendingclub, the goal is to make money by funding commercial loans at 7-14% interest.
I remember at the time wishing their was a similarly compelling experience to finance loans where the goals were more humanitarian/developmental in nature — turns out their was and I just wasn’t aware of it!
I’ve recently begun blogging again after a couple years off, and will definitely be posting about Kiva sometime soon once I’ve had a chance to use it a bit.
Cheers,
-Tim
